5 Tips On How To Dress Down Without Looking Lazy

Don’t be fooled - achieving an effortless look does require some effort. Here are five tips on how to nail that comfortable-yet-stylish look without looking like you’ve just emerged from a two day Netflix and takeout bender.

1. Master the art of layering

Whether you choose to play around with colors, lengths, textures, or all three - layering is a simple way to add subtle but interesting detail to your outfit. It’s also a good opportunity to wear that colorful shirt you love but never wear because it’s too loud on its own - just layer it under a neutral piece, and you’re good to go.

2. Iron your clothes

The trick to dressing down without looking lazy is neatness and mastering a clean aesthetic. When taking the “less is more” approach, it’s key to make sure that the few pieces you are wearing are immaculate. It’s what differentiates a man with style, and a college kid who grabbed something from the top of a laundry pile. If you hate ironing or you’re short on time in the mornings, keep your favorite tees on hangers to avoid wrinkles.

3. Accessorize

A watch, or a neat cluster of bracelets, and a clean pair of kicks can be all it takes to bring that something extra to an otherwise basic outfit.

4. Invest in quality pieces

Poor quality pieces often go thin and dull after a few washes, so it’s worth investing in better quality basics that will last. Find a brand whose basics fit you just right, and make them your staple.

5. Confidence

Walk tall, don’t slouch, you know the drill. Whether you’re in a thousand-dollar suit or an old pair of sweatpants and a plain tee, at the end of the day, how you carry yourself as a man is what makes all the difference.
